The film and TV production programme at Yrkeshögskolan Novia, University of Applied Sciences was founded 1993. The programme wants to develop the students’ ability to create visual and artistic solutions and also develop an understanding for dramaturgy within the frame of film and TV production. The students will get the theoretical and practical knowledge they need to independently grow within their own personal expression. The students can later on work as film directors, film photographers, editors, graphic artists and in other positions within the field. During the course of one year about ten short films are made and presented at film festivals and on TV.

The programme is 4 years long and consists of 240 points. Every year deals with different aspects of the film and TV industry.

The first year lead the students into the world of mass media and the basics in film semiotics. Production planning, studio directing, both single- and multiple-camera setups, are introduced to the students.

The second year is creative documentary. The focus is on processing facts and information, script work, film photography, editing, sound recording and directing documentaries. 

The third year is drama and short film. Dramaturgy and different types of storytelling are covered as well as script, set design, directing, film history, semiotics, productions techniques, lights, sound and editing. Also a basic course in 16mm results in two short films.

During the fourth and last year the students get to choose their area of expertise, which they get to specialize in. The students can choose to take an in-depth look at any area of the industry such as production, script and directing, film photography and light, or computer graphics and multi media. During the four years the students will get about 20 weeks of working in the field through internships.

The programme has two main teachers, Christian Olsson and Bo Forsander, one media assistant, Joakim Finholm,  and hires 5-10 guest teachers a year.

Admissions are every other year, and the next time it will be in the spring of 2007.
